INDUSTRY AT NIGHT

Today I want to show you some light paintings that I took in different industrial plants. Some of the plants are still in operation, others are already very dilapidated. The idea was to breathe some life into the plants with my light painting.

In this picture I had placed an RGB lamp with radio remote control in the control cabinet. This way I could switch the lamp on and off while standing in front of the control cabinet. So I started the exposure, positioned myself and switched on the RGB lamp for a few seconds. Then I painted the blue light traces into the picture with white optic fibres and a small RGB torch. In the last step, I then illuminated the room in the front area with a blue torch and the back area with a white torch.

For this shot, our model Danilo positioned himself and I stood behind the open door with the fireworks, spraying the sparks from the equipment. Most of the light in the room came from the fireworks. I only had to use a torch to illuminate the areas that didn't get enough light from the fireworks. Sometimes light painting can be "easy".

Here, Danilo was again at our disposal as a model. But before we could start, we went in search of a ladder. After we had found a ladder, I placed several RGB lamps in the openings of the boiler. I was able to switch them on and off with radio remote controls. So I didn't have to climb the ladder 20 times during the light painting. First I lit Danilo with the Light Scanner. Then I illuminated the boiler with a torch. Then I set the aperture on the lens to 16, stood behind Danilo and ignited the firework volcano and moved it back and forth a little on the shovel Danilo was holding. Then I shone a red torch behind Danilo into the picture. Then I set the aperture back to 8 and Marla illuminated the area outside the window.

This is what the boiler house looks like in daylight.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The artist illuminates the scene with diverse light sources and paints light traces into the picture with various light tools. In addition, we use various other techniques, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All our pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, our pictures are not processed on the computer.
