Some time ago @marlasinger666 gave me a set of prisms. Later I bought a few more. I attach a prism in front of the lens and then do the light painting as usual. I prefer to use this technique for light painting portraits. I created Erik's portrait with black fibre optics.
Vor einiger Zeit hat mir @marlasinger666 ein Set Prismen geschenkt. Später habe ich dann noch einige gekauft. Ich befestige ein Prisma vor dem Objektiv und mache dann das Light Painting wie sonst auch. Am liebsten setze ich diese Technik für Light Painting Portraits ein. Das Portrait von Erik habe ich mit schwarzen Glasfasern erstellt.
In this picture I first lit myself and then turned the Orb. At the end I had illuminated the star in the middle of the picture. I had turned the prism away from the lens beforehand.
Bei diesem Bild habe ich erst mich selbst eingeleuchtet und dann den Orb gedreht. Zum Schluss hatte ich den Stern in der Mitte ins Bild geleuchtet. Das Prisma hatte ich vorher vom Objektiv weggedreht.
In this picture, I had first lit @stepko's face, with the prism in front of the lens. In the second step, I turned the prism to the side, @stepko took a few steps back and I illuminated him again with the Light Scanner. Then I lit up the forest with the Fenix LR35R.
Bei diesem Bild hatte ich erst das Gesicht von @stepko beleuchtet, mit dem Prisma vor dem Objektiv. Im zweiten Schritt hatte ich das Prisma zur Seite gedreht, @stepko ist einige Schritte zurück gegangen und ich habe ihn ein weiteres Mal mit dem Light Scanner eingeleuchtet. Danach habe ich mit der Fenix LR35R den Wald erhellt.
Depending on the focal length, the close-up limit and the distance of the prism to the lens, the effect changes. I took this picture of @marlasinger666 with the 35mm Meyer Optik Görlitz lens. As a result, the individual reflections in the prism are shown larger and are outside the plane of focus. With shorter focal lengths the reflections are smaller and sharper.
Abhängig von der Brennweite, der Nahstellgrenze und dem Abstand des Prismas zum Objektiv verändert sich der Effekt. Dieses Bild von @marlasinger666 hab ich mit dem 35mm Meyer Optik Görlitz Objektive aufegenommen. Dadurch werden die einzelnen Spiegelungen im Prisma größer dargestellt und sind außerhalb der Schärfebene. Bei kürzeren Brennweiten sind die Spiegelungen kleiner und schärfer.
Here you can see the prism from the pictures above. The holder is not ideal, but I have not yet come up with anything better. These prisms are actually meant to be held in the hand. With long exposure times, however, this becomes a bit difficult. And if someone gets cheeky, you can also use the prisms as brass knuckles.😂
Hier seht ihr das Prisma aus den Bilder von oben. Die Halterung ist nicht optimal, aber etwas besseres ist mir bisher nicht eingefallen. Diese Prismen sind eigentlich dafür gedacht in der Hand gehalten zu werden. Bei langen Belichtungszeiten wird das allerdings etwas schwierig. Und wenn jemand frech wird kann man die Prismen auch als Schlagring verwenden.

The other prisms have a 1/4 inch thread and can thus be attached directly to the gooseneck without the screw clamp. However, I usually don't use these prisms in front of the lens but in front of the torch to refract the light and thus create interesting light trails in the picture.
Die anderen Prismen haben ein 1/4 Zoll Gewinde und lassen sich somit direkt am Schwanenhals ohne die Schraubklemme befestigen. Diese Prismen benutze ich allerdings meist nicht vor dem Objektiv sondern vor der Taschenlampe um das Licht zu brechen und damit interessante Lichtspuren im Bild zu erzeugen.
WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?
Light painting is a unique form of art. The artist illuminates the scene with diverse light sources and paints light traces into the picture with various light tools. In addition, we use various other techniques, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited.
All our pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, our pictures are not processed on the computer.
