Aurora Borealis
Seid gegr眉脽t, Freunde des n盲chtlichen Sternenhimmels. In letzter Zeit war ich hier nicht sehr aktiv. Mich hatte eine Grippe erwischt und ich habe mit dem Astro Tracker, den ich letztens gebaut hatte, gek盲mpft. Leider ist der Tracker nicht zu gebrauchen. Das Getriebe aus Kunststoff ist einfach nicht stabil genug. Ich werde einen neuen Tracker bauen. Dazu dann mehr, wenn das Ding fertig ist.
Greetings, friends of the starry night sky. I haven't been very active here lately. I've had the flu and have been struggling with the astro tracker I built the other day. Unfortunately, the tracker is not usable. The plastic gearbox is simply not stable enough. I'm going to build a new tracker. More about that when it's finished.

Zwei Katzen haben sich sofort mit uns angefreundet und uns bei unserer Arbeit in der Dunkelheit unterst眉tzt. Leider waren sie der Meinung, dass der Bildausschnitt nicht richtig ist und haben mehrfach mein Stativ verschoben. 馃槀
Two cats immediately made friends with us and helped us with our work in the dark. Unfortunately, they didn't think the framing was right and moved my tripod several times. 馃槀
Step One - Composition and Planning
Bei einem Rundgang 眉ber das Gel盲nde suchte ich zuerst nach einem passenden Motiv. Der Fischer hat ein Gestell gebaut um seine Netze zu trocken. Leider war nur ein Netz auf dem Gestell, aber auch "fast nackt" fand ich das Motiv sehr spannend.
On a tour of the site, I first looked for a suitable motif. The fisherman had built a frame to dry his nets. Unfortunately there was only one net on the rack, but even "almost naked" I found the motif very exciting.
Im Anschluss schaute ich in Photo Pills wo die Milchstra脽e in der Szene sein w眉rde. Leider passte das nicht ganz. Aber ein anderer Bildausschnitt war nicht m枚glich. Von der "richtigen" Seite aus, sah das Gestell nicht gut aus.
I then looked in Photo Pills to see where the Milky Way would be in the scene. Unfortunately, it didn't quite fit. But it wasn't possible to crop the picture any other way. From the "right" side, the frame didn't look good.
Step Two - Forground
Nachdem ich die Kamera ausgerichtet hatte, wartete ich bis zur D盲mmerung. Ich fotografierte den Vordergrund als es fast dunkel war. Ich beleuchtete die Szene mit dem Seitenlicht der Wurkkos HD01 Pro. Das hat eine angenehme Farbtemperatur und einen hohen Farbwiedergabeindex. Das Licht ist sehr diffus. Somit gelang mir eine weiche, homogene Beleuchtung.
After I had set up the camera, I waited until dusk. I photographed the foreground when it was almost dark. I lit the scene with the side light of the Wurkkos HD01 Pro. This has a pleasant colour temperature and a high colour rendering index. The light is very diffuse. This enabled me to achieve soft, homogeneous lighting.

Step Three - Stack the Stars
Auf einem zweiten Stativ hatte ich den Star Tracker montiert und auf den Polarstern ausgerichtet. Und da kamen dann meine beiden Katzen-Freundinnen ins Spiel. W盲hrend einer Raufferei sind sie gegen das Stativ gerannt. Dadurch waren dann Sternenspuren in den Bildecken zu sehen. Aber gl眉cklicherweise konnte ich das Bild noch retten. Ich machte 16 Aufnahmen mit jeweils 60 Sekunden Belichtungszeit und stackte diese dann in Sequator. Nach etwas Bearbeitung in Darktable sah das dann so aus:
AI had mounted the Star Tracker on a second tripod and aligned it with Polaris. And that's when my two cat friends came into play. During a scuffle, they ran into the tripod. As a result, star trails could be seen in the corners of the picture. But fortunately I was able to save the image. I took 16 shots with an exposure time of 60 seconds each and then stacked them in Sequator. After some editing in Darktable it looked like this:
Bei einem Blick auf das Kameradisplay wunderte ich mich 眉ber die komischen bunten Lichter. Ist die Kamera kaputt oder sind das tats盲chlich Polarlichter?
Looking at the camera display, I wondered about the strange coloured lights. Is the camera broken or are those actually auroras?

Step Four - Post Processing
In Gimp vereinte ich dann den Vordergrund mit den Sternen. 脺ber eine Ebenenmaske entfernte ich den Himmel aus dem Bild des Vordergrundes. Das gestackte Bild der Sterne richtete ich dann so aus, dass es passt. Das Ergebnis seht ihr ganz oben.

I then merged the foreground with the stars in Gimp. I used a layer mask to remove the sky from the foreground image. I then aligned the stacked image of the stars so that it would fit. You can see the result at the top.
