A thought I think that will make your life a little easier with less conflict.
If someone is offended by something you said it is only a reflection of how your comment made them feel not a judgement of you or your intentions of that comment. Just acknowledge their reaction and move on.
If you get offended by something someone said, you are responding based on your own sensibilities. Don’t assume nefarious intent of the offender they probably said what they said in a reasonable context and you should avoid judgement and just say the comment bothered you and move on.
It’s ok to be offended and it’s ok to not be offended. You shouldn’t have to feel like you walking on glass to not offend people, and you should not feel like you have to pretend something didn’t bother you. Let people say what they want, and be ok when someone expresses bother with something you say.
(It’s ok to bother and be bothered. It is a courtesy not an obligation to others when you avoid bothering or being bothered)
We are all different with different sensibilities if we can take a moment to appreciate that we’ll be ok.
Simple. We don’t need to please/be pleased by 100% of the people 100% of the time.
