Let me start off by saying copra sucks. Coconuts are amazing and a coconut trees is referred to as the tree of life. Copra on the other hand is the worst product you can make with a coconut and an absolute disrespect to the coconut gods.
Basically copra is the meat of an old coconut that has a large percentage of the moisture removed. After being sold and many middle men later a low quality coconut oil will be the final product.
Now when dealing with copra as a small farmer you have two options "selling strait" or "selling dry". Selling strait means strait out of the jungle usually with about 30% moisture removed. Selling dry means brings the moisture down to maybe 60% moisture removed.

As a copra buyer I will be buying copra strait out of the jungle from small farmers. I will stock pile it like this and on sunny days we will bring the copra out to bring down the moisture level.

This is my big buyer who requires me to do 3 tons (3000 kilos) of copra a month.
Ok so here is the secret to making profit with copra. You see my "big buyer" lets me lock in a price for 30 days this is called a contract price. The requirement is I must do 3 tons. Because my price is locked in I can now go back and buy copra under my contract price. The moment I buy the copra I know how much profit I made because My big buyer and me have a contract price.
I will let you in on another secret. Even if I am not offering the highest price in town because I own the farm the coconuts must be sold to me. So one of the secrets to being a copra buyer is to just own enough farms to ensure the fulfillment of a 3 ton contract each month.
