As a carbonist, there is no benefit to reducing hydrocarbons. But a large factory can be potentially a lot more efficient than thousands of small engines running . Electricity is the most efficiently transported form of energy once there are power lines to transport it on. The fact that taxes are driving these changes makes me suspect that this isn't the case though. Converting energy from one form to another and then to motion is normally less efficient than converting fuel to motion.
