Hello guys,it's portrait painting today and I will be sharing one I did titled,"Okunrin".The medium I used is oil on paper.
"Okunrin" is a Nigerian word that means "Man".It is used by the Yorubas in Nigeria,a subset of the cultural groups in Nigeria.The word "Okunrin"is a very important vocabulary in the Yoruba lexicon.
As a man in the Yoruba land,there is a whole lot of responsibility you are saddled with,from the raising of a family to the upholding of the cultural values of the Yoruba land in that same family.
In addition,the Yoruba mythology holds it that a person's head is very pivotal to his destiny and more often than not,the man is always referred to as the "head" of the family.
Hence,the significance of okunrin.
