Hello to all video game lovers! Welcome to another gaming delivery from me... Today I will share with you a review of the second installment of the great "MegaMan" saga.
In my previous content, I brought you a repertoire about the first installment of this saga, I was motivated to bring you this second installment of "MegaMan", because I thought it was great the way I did in the first one and I hope this one won't be the exception xD, although this time I will only review this good title.

"MegaMan 2" would make its appearance on December 24, 1988 in Japan, by July 1989 it would arrive to the United States.
When this second installment arrived for the first time in Japan, the first title of this saga was just about to turn a year on the shelves of many stores. "MegaMan" was having success in purchases, so the great "CAPCOM" took the opportunity to put everything on the cake and start this second installment of the saga.

For "MegMan 2" there was a particularity on the part of the developers, in the first installment of "MegaMan" they were the creators and/or designers of the enemy "Robot Bosses", but for the second installment, they had the initiative that the enemies were created and/or designed by the gamer public lover of this great game. This initiative was a contest called by the creators as "Boss Character Contest", this contest was so well received, that more than 8000 entries were sent to "CAPCOM". It is important to mention that thanks to this, the contest became a tradition for the lovers of this saga, since for the later titles of the saga this contest was held.

Story | News

The story of this second installment of "MegaMan" is nothing complex, a little more of the same as in the first one, but this time, the mad scientist "Wily", after being defeated by "MegaMan", returns to his laboratory and gets ready to work on the creation of new robots, this with the same purpose of trying to conquer the world again.
Actually, the story is nothing special, but it is in this second installment where "CAPCOM" would introduce new features that in turn would be very positive for the franchise in general.

Among these new features we find the fact that now instead of facing 6 robot bosses, now we would face 8, that is, the game would be a little longer, but we would have new special weapons.
Also a password system would appear that would allow us to resume the game from a specific point, this was quite useful, since in the first installment of "MegaMan" there was no such system and in the worst case we had to start the scenarios from the beginning.
On the other hand we would also have "The E-Tanks", which in this case are the life regenerators that serve to recover all the health in the most crucial moments of the game.

With respect to the novelty of the new robot bosses, these bring with them that now not all are weak to a special weapon in particular, but they are also weak to several of these special weapons, this means that unlike the first installment of the saga, we must not follow a cycle in terms of scenarios, we can go skipping the scenarios as we go forward without the concern that the special weapon we have available at that time will not be effective against the robot boss of the level we are passing at the time. In addition to this there is a curious fact, and that is that there is a robot boss that is weak against its own weapon, but of course this point will be evident in the second stage when you return to face all the robots.
These were new developments that would be quite positive for the saga of "MegaMan" at the time, which was very well seen by all fans of this great title.

Gameplay

This second installment of "MegaMan" stays true to the basic design of the series with respect to gameplay, it is very similar to the first installment of the series. An important point to mention is the fact that for the American version (and I think for the European version as well) a difficulty selection system was added, in this selection we will find a "NORMAL MODE" that would be much easier than the original version, we will also have in this selection the "DIFFICULT MODE", this would be the original difficulty of the original version of the game. The difference or variant that may exist between these difficulty modes is the damage that can be done to the enemies.

Talking now about the controls, it is more of the same, as simple as a button to jump, a button to shoot and the direction buttons to move and run.

For its part the levels maintain the same scheme, if we die and at least we have not advanced enough (at least half), we will have to start from the beginning. If we are fighting against a robot boss and we die, we will start in the corridor that gives the entrance to the robot boss.
In the worst case scenario that we lose all lives, the game will ask us whether to continue in the level or change it.

Graphics

In this second installment of "MegaMan" graphically there is a big difference compared to the first, providing more variety of scenarios as well as two extra levels. The scenarios were better worked, giving more color and unique details, example of these scenarios can be the level of "WoodMan" that takes place in a forest, we also have the colorful and very detailed level of "FlashMan".

On the other hand the characters became a solid aspect of this section, it is true that we got some other variants with respect to the enemies we had in the first installment of the series, but this was something that fell quite well to the game, the enemies in "MegaMan 2" are quite colorful, well defined, cartoonish and in some cases gigantic, I can say that the cartoonish details in these enemies that were huge gave that touch of realism to the game for the time.

Sound

As for the sound I can say that it is a fact that "MegaMan 2" takes the best of the sound chip of the Nintendo NES, "MegaMan 2" went a step further unlike other iconic titles of its time, personally I think its soundtrack is one of the best, with melodies as well defined and amazing as those that can be found in their levels. Undoubtedly its soundtracks is the strongest point of this title where you can appreciate and in the same way perceive a rhythm and speed that go quite well with the atmosphere that manages each level.

My final verdict on "MegaMan 2"
"MegaMan 2" ended up being an old school relic, its release was what allowed the saga to take off once and for all. In "MegaMan 2", everything was improved in contrast to the first installment, with more stages, more melodies, much more difficulty, new weapons and a lot of possibilities.
Perhaps its difficulty was too high and it is here where it would receive some negative points, but without may receive some negative points, but nevertheless it is still a very respectable title in the world of retro videogames. A title with a soundtrack on another level for its time, a very vivid color graphics for its scenarios and characters, no doubt everyone who loves this world of retro video games, should give a chance to "MegaMan 2" at least once in life!
