Plus: Visa and Mastercard Open Stablecoin Funding, CryptoSlate Warns Leveraged Bitcoin Holders
Good Morning Lions,
Ether funds lost more money than Bitcoin funds last week, and BlackRock's product took most of the hit. I think the selling is aimed at ETH exposure specifically for now, since BTC funds held up better. BUT, frens, Visa and Mastercard building stablecoin rails in the same week tells me demand for onchain dollars keeps growing, no matter what ETF holders do this month.
Ether ETFs Shed $320M in Outflows
TL;DR: US spot Ether ETFs had about $320 million in net outflows in the week ending October 16, 2026, according to Crypto Briefing. That was more than the roughly $228 million that left spot Bitcoin ETFs over the same week, and BlackRock's ETHA accounted for most of the Ether fund redemptions.
Visa and Mastercard Open Stablecoin Funding
TL;DR: Visa and Mastercard announced stablecoin funding routes for eligible businesses on October 15. Visa is working through Inyo Global and Mastercard is working through BVNK. Payout reach across 200 countries is a 2027 target, and no volume figures were disclosed.
CryptoSlate Warns Leveraged Bitcoin Holders
TL;DR: A CryptoSlate analysis argues that leveraged Bitcoin holders can lose money even when the BTC price stays flat. Borrowing costs, forgone yield and futures premiums all cut into returns, and the analysis says the drag gets worse when inflation and interest rates run high.
Vitalik Buterin Contrasts Mining and Inference Costs
TL;DR: Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said Bitcoin mining costs are split almost evenly between hardware and electricity. In his comparison, AI inference costs come almost entirely from hardware, with electricity playing a much smaller role.
Hoskinson Calls Leios Cardano's Final Milestone
TL;DR: Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson said in a reply on X that Cardano will have everything he wanted once the Leios scaling upgrade arrives, and he described it as the network's last major milestone. The Leios public testnet has entered its Fire phase.
Aptos Burns Trail Its Staking Emissions
TL;DR: Aptos burned 174,100 APT over the past 30 days and 1.9 million APT since launch, Crypto Briefing reported. Staking emissions of about 1.5 million APT a month still exceed the burn, so net supply keeps growing by roughly 1.4 million APT each month.
OG Markets Certifies SEI Perpetual Futures
TL;DR: CFTC-regulated OG Markets certified US dollar-settled SEI perpetual futures on October 8, Crypto Briefing reported. The listing was expected by October 12, and the contract has a minimum order size of 100 SEI.
If ETHA keeps leading the redemptions next week while Bitcoin fund outflows shrink, the weakness really is ETH-specific. If both fund types turn positive together, last week was just broad de-risking and nothing more. 🦁 — Khal
