TEXT IN ENGLISH

Ever since Plato, thanks to his famous myth, we have believed that, if we are lucky, patient and know how to choose, there is a soul mate out there waiting for us who will love us like no one else and with whom we will be happy. As everything in this world, such a statement has its promoters and its detractors.

For its promoters this is undoubtedly true, almost a matter of faith, and they spend their lives longing for that soul mate. Many believe they have found it, only to discover sooner rather than later that it is not what they were looking for, changing partners all the time. Or what is worse, they keep waiting for it all their lives, because nothing that crosses their path meets their expectations.

There are its detractors, who do not believe at all in romantic love and even less in marriage. For them, marriage is a contract where both parties agree to honor it, something that is almost never fulfilled for multiple reasons that are not worth mentioning. Most of them get married and get divorced, remaining in that state and having fleeting relationships from which they expect nothing. And there are those who wander around the world like souls in pain without hope, because they simply do not feel worthy of love.

However, the above analysis lacks depth, it only encompasses a retrospective view of how love has been viewed on a general level since ancient times. Returning to Plato, I believe that like many of his teachings, this one has been misinterpreted. In the human mind there are two great antagonists, the conscious and the unconscious. I believe that this is the way the myth of the philosopher mentioned above, which is perhaps not so mythical, just as the biblical story of Adam and Eve is not so mythical.

All of the above leads us to the great Delphic motto "Know thyself", but an obvious question arises: What is more important to know yourself or to love yourself? Without pretending to be Solomonic, the two are closely linked, because you only love what you know and vice versa, you can only know in depth what you love. It is necessary that we stop here to analyze the two premises that have different scopes.

From the point of view of the conscious mind, love needs knowledge of the loved object. In that order of ideas, it is necessary to dedicate time and attention to the people, creatures and objects that in theory we love, otherwise it would be impossible to know them.

With respect to the second premise, it says that you can only know someone through love; that is, through union in the act of physically, mentally and spiritually loving the other. This implies a higher level of consciousness, it means transcending sexual polarity, which is very important, although we are talking about only one of the many types of love that exist, such as love for God, filial love, and agape, which have other scopes.

Now, all the above is in the plane where we think, remember and act, being awake and realizing everything or at least most of the facts and phenomena that happen to us, but the human being is a mystery to himself and never ends up knowing, because the mind has a higher percentage of unconscious area than conscious level.

It is difficult for us to look at ourselves, to see those dark areas, on the other hand, we are conditioned by the social and at the same time we have survival mechanisms that hide the events that can stop our existence or survival in hidden places of our mind. If life as a whole is complex, we as human individuality are more complex and indecipherable. However, we have to assume ourselves as part of the whole that is the universe.

It is there where I believe we must look for the problem and the solution, since it has always been seen from an external perspective. When Plato narrated his myth, perhaps using the spiritual wisdom that says: as outside is inside and vice versa, his story did not refer to a physical separation but a mental one. If we analyze our actions, in many occasions we act as if we were two different people. Not to mention the pathological cases of multiple personalities.

Very easily we enter into contradictions and act in an instinctive or emotional way against the rational being that also cohabits in the mind. This has already been extensively studied by psychology, duality or polarity is a phenomenon perhaps a product of the way our brain perceives the world, but for the human being it is an undeniable reality both psychologically and phenomenally.

So if the above is a fact, it is evident that first we have to reconcile ourselves and go after that other unknown being that is our unconscious self. That is the soul mate we must love and who will be with us until the end of our life. The person who knows us better than anyone else by keeping our secrets, a mysterious being with whom we must fall in love, because he is the other half we have been looking for, the better half so sought after for centuries.

To understand this, which is not easy and which implies recognition and centering, we must accept how attached we are to the outside. As long as we do not reconcile with ourselves, the world will reflect the separateness we carry inside.

The chaotic world we are living in is a reflection of our inner chaos, of our escapes from ourselves, of our evasions.

"> When we start acting with love on ourselves, that love is automatically going to be reflected in our outward doing. If we just fold our arms, which is like embracing ourselves - which I'm not saying is a bad thing, if we do it consciously - but at the same time we don't embrace humanity, then we're not doing the whole job.

To be more explicit about what it means to love our unconscious or soul mate we need another post, so that we try to describe in words what in my opinion is the greatest work that lies ahead for all human beings. Today I affirm that I am an unstoppable being, who is beginning to love consciously and who is open to the possibilities that the wonderful and mysterious life brings.

I say goodbye paraphrasing the four steps of ho'oponopono dedicated to my soul mate: I am sorry for having looked for you where I should not have; forgive me for believing that this love was not possible; thank you for always having been there in my path, even though I did not even look at you; and I promise from today to love you more than anyone else, because if I do not love myself, I cannot love anyone else.

See you soon.
