Taking A Chance

DSC_0298.jpg

So after a long and grueling quarantine, I decided to get back to the outdoors and resume my adventures! We took an almost 4 hour drive to the north eastern part of Trinidad to Salybia Bay, a beach I've never been to before. Get this, the beaches are still closed to the public so basically I was taking a risk! There was so much to see and so little time before the patrolling police came and told us to leave. I managed to get the drone up and get some shots as well as with the DSLR so I hope you enjoy!

A River That Leads Into The Sea

Once I got the drone up, I got a clear view of the Salybia River that leads right into the ocean. The beach/shore is basically a river way as well where the water flows into the ocean. The waters were emerald green, something I had never seen before in Trinidad and the same could be said about the water in the sea. The water kind of snakes or meanders its way from the river, across the sands of the beach.

The Beach

The beach itself was empty, obviously, due to quarantine restrictions. This meant however that I had no idea of how crowded the place usually was. There were some lifeguards and fisher folk lounging in their lodgings but no sign of visitors anywhere. I got a few stern looks from them! They were probably wondering what I was doing there.

When you look to the left, facing the ocean, you could see a small island all the way out, a little distance from the shore. It felt like some foreign tropical island to me when I saw this. I really wanted to fly the drone out there to explore the island but the weather conditions were not favorable at the time, sadly. I had never been to this part of the island and the view was amazing!

The River

The river that flowed into the ocean (Salybia River) had some hidden gems. It was decorated with mangrove and coconut trees on both sides and emerald green waters. There were some boats left on the banks that made everything feel like it was a scene set up and left by Disney's Imagineers at Disney world.

I brought the drone up cautiously to this spot and got a marvelous shot of the little hut and the boats. The colours of the boats and the emerald water as well as the surrounding trees was just breath taking! I had some fun editing that shot and came up with this.

Across from this bank was a solitary boat amidst mangrove trees, the scene looked almost as if it were from a different area altogether! I wouldn't have expected to see such a big contrast just across the river in terms of the types of trees.

An Amazing Adventure

It was about this time that the police rolled up in their jeep and asked us what the heck we were doing there! After a quick lesson on the current quarantine restrictions, we left promptly without any argument as we knew that we were indeed taking a chance. I had gotten my fill of nature and had fun flying my drone and getting some awesome shots. No regrets! I'll leave you with some more awesome shots from that day at Salybia, thanks for reading, Cheers!
