Around the month of April, there are trees on our University campus that produce these beautiful yellow flower petals that all fall to the ground making the lawn in a large area look like a fantasy for a few weeks. The yellow is bright and vibrant and when it mixes with the green of the grass it creates an area that you just can’t resist wanting to walk, lie down or run in! A few of my friends and I decided to go have and enjoy the short lived phenomenon and take pictures at the time. I kind of missed it this year and I was reminiscing a bit on campus life before the COVID-19 pandemic.
I decided to take some perspective photos to document the beautiful phenomenon both in its entirety as well as down below at the ground level so you can see how to flowers actually look. At this time I jokingly thought of Coldplay's song called "Yellow" and I could hear it playing in my head. It was an awesome accompaniment to the experience. You should play it as you read, I actually played it while I wrote this post!
We decided, within our bout of fun and spontaneity, to have a full on photoshoot of sorts for no reason. The girls wanted to lie in the grass and take some shots for Instagram so why not? The one you see there with her hair spread out is Nicole, she's a bit of a thespian and love to be dramatic with her poses and facial expressions! It was hilarious and fun at the same time. She could actually be a model!
We had an umbrella from whom I cannot remember we acquired it, which we decided to use in the "shoot". It was an amazing prop this time the model became the photographer and vice versa as she took the phone and made me hold it with an upward view. I must say the perspective and angle was brilliant and has since then inspired a lot of my works. The green of the trees and the umbrella paired really well with the red of my polo jersey.
There were other yellow trees around from which we got two larger flowers. My idea was to place them amidst the smaller ones to see how they would look in a photo. It wasn't that bad of an idea but for some reason it still left me wanting.
Everyone who passed by seemed to have straight unhappy faces until they stopped to look at the sea of yellow. Some other girls stopped and simply just lied down and started taking selfies! It was hilarious to see other people having the same crazy tendencies as us without the care in the world, enjoying nature's amazing gifts. Even the birds seemed to be enjoying the scenes with their "friends" as well!
It's nice to let loose and be free even it means rolling around in the grass in the middle of a university campus while people pass by. The simple things that nature gifts us with should not be taken for granted and certainly not at the stake of our mental health. It was a stress relieving experience, one that I certainly missed this year.
