Another project we had to undertake was this large fruit cage. We had pretty much free rein on the design, and work methods. In principle we decided on a oak framed structure, with steal mesh as the main barrier for the wildlife. We started by concreting 200mm oak posts which were 2.6m high, 6 in total, to create 2 equal squares.
Once these had set we bolted the horizontal peace’s near the top. This left us a 2.4m gap for the fitting of the mesh panels. The next step was to fit the steal diagonal peace’s luckily for myself, my farther is a welder / fabricator, and he made all of the steal work for this project, at very little notice.
Once this was up it was just a case of fitting the gate, and mesh to the main areas. The tricky part of the build was the roof. 4 tubular steels that were rolled to a curve sat into the r top of the main posts, and met in the middle where thy inserted into a large oak finial. It was incredibly tricky to get right, and it took 4 people to hold everything in place whilst it was fitted. So unfortunately I was a bit to busy to take pictures of this stage.
Of this roof structure hung a fine netting which was added after we had finished by the company that made them to size. Overall it was good project, and still stands in almost new condition today.
