If you're arguing government budgets and you don't know the vast difference in infrastructure spending and staffing spending, then stop talking.
They are different kinds of things, and ultimately are approached differently.
Also, we don't get, as tax payers to decide which we value more. People train hard and gain experience for years to make the best decision for the entity involved.
I am exhausted by people and how they interact with government spending.
For example-- a new library building needs to be built to be used at all. Keeping the library open 4 hours later each night is a cost. If you have two patrons in that last four hours, it is a cost that can be cut, and should be cut. There is no demand for use.
And the people who operate these units learn this over time. You can't bitch about the city wasting money on the library system AND keep them open for 4 extra hours to no good effect,
The buildings will get use... and in some cases MUST be rebuilt because repair cost is lower than the cost of rebuilding.
It's not just governments either in this case. "Why does Subway close earlier on Sunday?" Because nobody was coming, numpty.
But nobody complains about new Subways being built when the existing ones close early.....
FUCKING. THINK.
