My biggest fear right now is the safety of my family, my loved ones, and the people in my country. As a woman, I'm scared, as a mother I'm scared, as a daughter I'm scared also as a sister. How are we going to survive terrorism.
We are living in a time when insecurity has become part of everyday life. There was a time when our major concern was the economy. Even though things were difficult, many of us believed that with time things would improve. Unfortunately, instead of getting better, new problems have emerged, and they seem to be getting worse.
What troubles me the most is the level of cruelty we now hear about almost every day. Kidnapping has become so common that many people are afraid to travel, even for important reasons. It is no longer just about demanding ransom money. Victims are often tortured, humiliated, and sometimes killed even after their families do everything possible to secure their release.
Stories like these leave me heartbroken and filled with fear. One particular story has stayed in my mind for a long time. A young woman was kidnapped and repeatedly abused by her captors, violated day in day out. Her family struggled to raise the ransom they demanded. When her father finally got the money together, he asked to speak with his daughter before making the payment, just to be sure she was alive.
During that conversation, the young woman told her father about the terrible things she had been going through. She then told him not to pay the ransom because, in her words, he would only be wasting his money. She felt that after everything she had suffered, she could not continue living even if she was eventually released.
Before the conversation could continue, a gunshot was heard. The kidnappers killed her and later sent her photograph of her remaining to her father.
Whenever I remember that story, I cannot help but think about what she must have endured to reach that point. It is difficult to imagine the pain, fear, and hopelessness she experienced. As a parent, hearing those words from your child and then witnessing such a tragic ending must be unbearable.
This is why I worry so much. Traveling from one town to another now feels risky because nobody knows where danger may be waiting. Families leave home every day praying that they will return safely.
I am honestly tired of living with this constant anxiety. I am tired of hearing heartbreaking stories and wondering who might be next. More than anything, I hope for a time when people can move freely without fear, when families can sleep peacefully, and when innocent lives are no longer destroyed by senseless violence. Until then, the safety of me, my family and everyone around me remains my biggest fear.
Thanks for checking on my blog and have a wonderful day
