Taking too many photos while traveling is a norm for me and posting twice about a particular destination has become my custom these days. Here we go again I suppose. These are the extra photos that I took during our trip to Mont St. Michel, the ones that didn't make it to my main post.
Some of the shots are very similar to others just a slightly different angle or were taken with a different lens. Lets have a look shall we?
The walk up to the mont from the parking lot is a pretty decent jaunt. It takes about 10 - 15 minutes depending on how fast you walk. Here is a shot when we were getting close.
The surrounding ramparts are quite tall and were originally built to withstand attack from outside invaders. The site successfully defended itself from English invaders during the 100 years war.
The next shot is of people making their way to the site across the man made bridge.
The next one is the same but from higher up at the Abbey balcony. The view from that spot is really incredible. Its one of my favorite parts of visiting the site.
The next one is from the balcony again but looking out in the other direction. Depending on the time of day and if the tide is in or out you may be looking out over sand or water. Water is a little more scenic in my opinion but you have to take the Abbey tour later in the afternoon/evening to see the water coming in.
I took a few shots of the windows inside the Abbey.
I thought that they would be more interesting then they actually were.
There are walking tour excursions where a guide will take you out across the landscape when the tide is out and bring you to an island located a decent hike away from the mont. Supposedly there is quick sand out there so you have to be pretty careful.
The Mont is built in layers with streets that spiral their way upward toward the Abbey pinacle.
It creates these different tiers with different vantage points to look out over the surroundings.
From some tiers you look directly at the rooftops of the buildings and some you tower high above them. I guess that is how stairs, ramps and layered tiers generally work...duh. It's like I'm just writing words and sentences to get something written down isn't it?

We ended up turning in fairly early that evening probably around 9pm or so. We did go out for a walk a little before dark though to see the sunset and take one last look before going to the room to bed.
There was quite the difference between the surroundings during the day vs in the evening.
I took several pictures in the same place at different times of day.
