Its always difficult to make a decision on big purchases like that when there are many different options. Its usually hard to get everything that you want. I don't know much about ebikes unfortunately. Facebook market place would make me nervous for exactly what you are saying - the battery could be suspect and thats probably the most expensive part to fix/replace. Good luck in your decision!!
