They are definitely intimidating. There's 14 books in the regular series and each is 600+ pages. Its a massive undertaking. That series needs an abridged version. If it was edited down to 10 books it would be phenomenal. If someone had the time to remove all the repetive portions and unnecessary bits it could be done easily and still maintain all of the world building and character development and plot. There is a lot of redundancy in it.
