The snow came early this year. Much too early. It snowed quite heavily a few weeks ago and we just got another dumping of snow last night and a few days ago.
November is very early for this sort of thing in Ontario Canada.
The leaves were were still on the trees during the first storm.
Do you know how much of a pain in the ass it is to rake up leaves when they are drenched from snow? Its a soggy mess, I can tell you. I have so many leaves from my trees that I can't just leave them on the yard. They don't decompose fully in one season and really screw up the gardens in the spring. They kind of shred the hostas and flowers when they try and break through. So they have to go.
The bright red of the leaves was a pretty cool contrast to the stark white snow though. It reminded me of the Disney Princess Snow White and the whole "skin as white as snow" and lips like the color of blood or whatever the line is.
The photo above was my yard a day or two before the snow came. I had the bright idea of waiting until all of the leaves fell before begining to rake them up. "Do it all in one go" I thought. Yeah, that idea backfired on me, needless to say.
Normally we barely even get any snow by Christmas it seems - most years. Two major snow storms this early on makes me wonder how bad of a winter we are going to get. A lot of people haven't even put on their snow tires yet. Today I saw my neighbor scrambling to do it.
So if you hadn't gathered already, I'm just going to be rambling on about snow, maybe the weather and seasons, and my garden, in this post. Its all very riveting stuff.
I took a bunch of photos of my garden at various times of the spring and summer, and of the cedar boxes I built to hold our geraniums.
I never got around to posting them so now feels like a good time to do so. The geraniums did very poorly this year and im not sure why.
The summer photos are another nice contrast to the snowy winter photos. Maybe this post is actually about contrasts???
Our deck sits above the canopy of our Japanese maple tree. Its a nice spot to sit when the weather is nice.
The deck faces the street and our neighbors homes, but the trees offer a lot of privacy.
Our neighbors can't really see us from the street as long as the leaves haven't fallen. Now people can see directly into our living room from the street if they stand on the far end.
I also took a bunch of photos of my in-laws magnolia tree in the very early spring of this year.
The trees don't stay in bloom for very long but for the few short weeks that the flowers are out they are super pretty.
The heat came fast and early last spring so the tree only stayed in bloom a little over a week. It was pretty impressive while it lasted though.
Anyway, I'm already over this winter and its barely even begun yet. I have a feeling its going to be a long one. I guess its time that I go shovel my driveway. See you later!
