Going back to the year 1848, the infamous Das Kapital and The Communist Manifesto was published by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, both whom were exiled to London as a result of their publication.
Some individuals have argued that the implication of these books set the foundation for the ensuing anger against the status quo causing the political upheaval we know today. This had taken place around the world in that particular year and ended a year later, in total affecting up to 50 countries. Starting in Europe in countries such as; France, Belgium Denmark, Germany then engulfing most parts of Europe and parts of Latin America at its height.
Today it is commonly theorised that a handful of contributing factors resulted in leading to this revolution that took place in the year of 1848:
1) widespread dissatisfaction with political leadership
2) demands for more participation in government and democracy
3) demands for freedom of press,
4) the demands of the working class
5) the upsurge of nationalism
6) the regrouping of the classes based on the royalty, aristocracy, army, church and peasants. (or class warfare)
Although these factors contributed to the uprising that had taken in that same year changing the political landscape back then even up to this day. Abuse was very rampant and land plus property rights were not respected and with extortionate taxes as we have today, which are too bloody high! This is a case law taking place in England dating back to November 1762. Entick v. Carrington and Three Other King’s Messengers.
This case gives a glimpse into the rampant abuse of power, as is the same in today's time as it was back then. This was reported in 19 Howell’s State Trials 1029. The action was for trespassing and interfering with the plaintiff’s dwelling by breaking open his desks and boxes and searching and examining his papers. Please do have a further read for yourself and find out more. During the trial President to be John Adams, was quoted to have said after the judge had ruled in favour to the then King George III. (duh) “Then and there,” said John Adams, “then and there was the first scene of the first act of opposition to the arbitrary claims of Great Britain. Then and there, the child Independence was born.” Do have a read.
During the French Revolution after the overthrowing of Louis Phillipe I. A new political party had been formed and was called the Party of order or Rue de Poitiers Committee. Monarchist members from both the Orleanist and Legitimist factions, and also some republicans who admired the American model of government i.e. as the then Laissez Faire policy. This revolution caused a Free market inspired party to form in the exact same year. Widespread discontent with the Louis Napoleon Bonaparte presidency was rife and is thought that Napoleon included members within his administration due to the coup d'état in December 1851.
Revolutions don’t spring out of nowhere, there’s always a build-up of anger and frustration, typically from high inflation, taxes and everything else. Historians would have you believe that these events happen spontaneously, when it is seriously not the case.
For 1st hand accounts of the events that did transpire in the year. Then I’d recommend R. Hachtmann in Introduction to the Deutschland revolution. This talks about events that took place all across the European continent and how it affected the political landscape going forward.
