Mothers day is a "holiday" that most people think is about honoring Mothers, buying gifts, flowers, dinners etc.
Actually, Mothers Day originated back in 1870, when a woman by the name of Julia Ward Howe wrote the "Mothers Day Proclamation" as a plea for all Mothers to stand up and stop sending their sons to die in the war. She called for a group of women of all nationalities to come together to find solutions other than war.
It was a call for World Peace. It was about Honoring Life.
How very sad that these words are as true today as they were in 1870...
I come from a Matriarchal tribe. I am Seneca of the Iroquois Nation. The reason why women have always owned the land, been of the highest council and lineage is only tracked through them is because the men were out getting killed and spreading their seed.
I myself am not registerable as a Seneca because the Indian blood came from my full blooded GrandFather. It is ok, I do not require a piece of paper to know who I am and respect that this is a way to keep the bloodline alive. My GrandFather taught me that being Native has nothing to do with blood and everything to do with spirit.
No Mother wishes to send her child to war. Don't get me wrong, we love having a day set aside to Honor us and we love the gifts but please, let's remember that the the best way to Honor us is to allow our children to live, that we may love them our entire lives into our last days.
Let us stand for Peace, so that no Mother may lose their child to war.
My Heart goes out to all those who Mother today, whether you be female or male, whether your children are human, plant or animal...and especially for those who have lost a "child" or anything they have Mothered <3
Much Love <3
