After hiding a valuable artifact and sword in an underground vault, the protagonist was assassinated while trying to save his master. The old master cursed King Philip before his execution. Meanwhile, a mysterious voice recruited me to hack Abstergo, leading me into young Arno's past in Versailles.
I found the book that the assassin was trying to steal. Following the master's instructions, the artifact was secured inside an underground vault. It was a hidden base designed specifically to keep precious items safe from unwanted eyes.
After securing the book, my character secured the special sword as well. With everything safely hidden away, he stepped back outside, only to realize his master was being taken away by enemies.
As he rushed forward to rescue him, another assassin ambushed my character and killed him instantly. The attacker searched for the artifacts, but failed to find them. He then retreated into the underground to search further.
The scene shifted seven years into the future, where a crowd gathered to watch an execution. King Philip watched on as an old master faced his final moments. Before he died, the old man cursed King Philip, declaring that his bloodline would be cursed down to the third generation.
Suddenly, a woman named Bishop began speaking directly to me. She explained that Abstergo was using people's neural data to sift through history for their own hidden motives. She revealed that her group was working against Abstergo and had managed to breach their Helix servers the previous week.
She wanted me to experience a specific memory sequence to understand their ongoing struggle. Through her system, I was sent into a new memory location set in Versailles on December 27, 1776.
A young boy named Arno was walking through a grand palace alongside his father. Arno wanted to follow him, but his father asked him to wait in the hall. He handed him a pocket watch, telling him to stay put until the hand reached the top, promising they would watch the fireworks together once he returned.
Arno was left alone to explore the massive, decorated room. I guessed right then that this young boy would become my main playable character for the rest of the journey. As expected, he struggled to sit still in the vast hall for very long without finding something to distract himself.
