오늘은 PoS와 Node방식이 가져올 문제점에 관해 쓰려고 합니다.
지난번 글에서, 제가 정부 주도의 또 다른 이더리움이 등장할 가능성에 관해 쓰면서 인터넷 통신망과 전기에 대해 살짝 언급했었습니다.
이번에는 인터넷 통신망과 전기와 규제를 위주로 이더리움에 대한 이야기를 해보려고 합니다.
PoS가 가져올 문제점
사실, PoS가 가져올 문제점이라고 쓰면 PoS가 좀 억울하게 생각할 수 있습니다.
PoW방식도 같이 가지고 있는 문제이기 때문이죠.
하지만 PoS가 도입되면 좀 더 심화할 수 있는 문제라서 이렇게 쓰게 되었습니다.
'가정용 인터넷'이 가져다주는 제약
우리나라에서 가정용 인터넷은 사실 서버를 돌릴 수 없게 약관이 되어 있는 경우가 많습니다.
토렌트를 일상적으로 이용하는 시대에 무슨 말이냐고 하실 수 있지만, 실제로 80, 21과 같은 포트들이 직접 막혀있는 경우도 많습니다.
요즘 흔하게 돌리는 NAS를 이용한 개인 블로그라던가, Plex 등도 약관위반에 가깝습니다.
그래도 어찌어찌 포트변경이라던가, 우회한다던 가해서 돌릴 수 있었던 것은 그저 통신사의 아량일 뿐입니다.
PoW도 분명 문제가 될 수 있었습니다.
하지만 PoW는 명목상으론 어쨌든 코인을 '채굴'하는 것입니다.
그런데 PoS가 도입되면 이야기가 달라집니다.
PoS는 명확히 영리 목적으로 인터넷을 사용하는 것이고, 노드 유지 방식이라면 타인에게 사실상 서버를 임대하는 것과 다름이 없습니다.
이는 '가정용' 인터넷 이용 약관에 명백히 어긋나는 것이며, 많은 수익을 낸다면 사업자로 등록하지 않으면 문제가 될 수 있는 부분입니다.
가상화폐에 대한 법이 없는데 왜 문제가 될 수 있느냐?
이미 비트코인은 우리나라에서 압수당한 전력이 있습니다.
이는 가상화폐가 통화는 아니더라도, 무언가 가치를 가지는 재화로써 인정받았다는 이야기입니다.
굳이 돈을 받은 것이 아니더라도 서비스를 많이 제공하고, 대가를 많이 받았다는 점이 문제이지요.
2014년에는 채굴 광풍이 금방 끝났고, 가상화폐에 대한 사람들의 인식도 여전히 저조한 편이었습니다.
또한, 가상화폐 거래의 법적인 문제에 대한 논의도 이때 시작되었기 때문에 무사히 넘어갈 수 있었죠.
그러나 이번은 벌써 두 번째입니다.
컴퓨터 부품값이 눈에 띄게 오르고, 재고가 없고, 사람들은 매일 코인값이 얼마 올랐는지 이야기하고 있습니다.
그렇다고 PoS 및 Node 유지에 참여한 사람들이 바로 처벌받거나 할 것 같진 않습니다.
하지만 규제는 분명히 될 것이며, 대가를 치러야 할 것입니다.
규제가 왜 되어야 하나요?
노드 유지를 해도 사실 쓰면 인터넷 대역폭은 당장 얼마 안 될 수도 있습니다.
한 곳에서 10의 트래픽을 쓸 것을 어떻게 잘 나누어서, 10곳에서 1의 트래픽을 쓰게 만들면 별것 아니게 됩니다.
그런데 규제를 한다니 굳이 왜 그래야 할까 생각하시는 분들이 있을 것입니다.
그러나, 분명 악용하는 사람들이 나오기 때문입니다.
현재 집중화된 인터넷에서도 서버를 빌리면 대역폭 및 트래픽에 제한을 받습니다.
마찬가지로, 분산화된 인터넷에서도 대역폭과 트래픽 제한을 걸지 않으면 같은 문제가 생길 것입니다.
우리나라의 그리드 프로그램들을 생각해보시면 이해가 쉽습니다.
물론, gas 비용을 이용해 안전장치를 마련할 수 있지만, 지난 글에서 지적했듯 gas비가 조금이라도 부담이 되면 또 문제가 됩니다.
결국, 별다른 해결책이 없는 한, 이더리움이 POS 및 노드 시스템을 통해 절감하는 비용은 고스란히 일반 인터넷 사용자들에게 떠넘겨지는 셈입니다.
전기, 너도냐.
전기도 마찬가지입니다.
지금도 채굴장에서 쓰는 전기에 대한 논란이 많죠.
특히 이번 여름은 사람들이 에어컨 사용을 많이 할 것으로 보이는데, 발전소의 수는 줄어들었습니다.
그런데 전기가 일부 사람들의 수익창출용으로 사용되고 있다?
자본주의 사회이고, 법적으로 문제가 없으면 문제없지 않으냐고 하실 수 있지만 그렇지 않습니다.
이미 값싼 전기 요금으로 사업하는 기업들이 많이 부정적인 평가를 받았습니다.
일부 개인들의 욕심으로 다른 사람들에게 피해를 준다는 식의 논조가 나올 가능성이 큽니다.
그러나 채굴, 노드 유지를 포기하지 못하는 사람들도 분명 있을 것입니다.
양쪽을 전부 만족하게 하기 위해서는 법적 규제가 꼭 필요합니다.
결론 : '분산'된 서버는 '비용도 분산'시킨다 - 하지만 '부는 집중'시킨다.
중앙화된 서버가 사라진다고 해서, 그것에 필요한 연산능력, 전기, 통신망 대역폭이 사라지는 것은 아닙니다.
이들에 사용되는 비용도 작게 나누어지는 것뿐이지요.
그 비용이 모든 국민에게 잘게 나누어지고, 그 대신 혜택도 모두에게 같이 간다면 이를 문제 삼을 사람이 없을 것입니다.
그러나, 혜택은 소수에게 '집중'되고 비용은 모두에게 분산될 시스템은 결코 규제를 피할 수 없을 것입니다.
제가 이더리움에 대해 좀 부정적으로 쓰지만, 이더리움을 싫어하는 것은 아닙니다.
저는 굳이 따지면 이더리움을 좋아합니다.
더 좋은 방향으로 발전되길 바라며 글을 마칩니다.

Problems PoS will bring
In fact, if you write a problem that a PoS will bring, you may think that PoS is a little unfair.
It's a problem with the PoW method too.
However, when PoS is introduced, it is a problem that can be further deepened.
Restrictions on 'Home Internet'
In Korea, home internet is often a condition that you can not turn on the server.
You can say what you mean in the days of using torrents on a daily basis, but there are many cases where ports such as 80 and 21 are directly blocked.
Personal blogs using NAS, which is commonly run nowadays, and Plex are also close to breach of the terms.
However, it is only a matter of the carrier to have been able to change whether it was a port change or a detour.
PoW could also be a problem.
But the PoW is nominally "mining" the coin anyway.
But when PoS is introduced, the story changes.
PoS is clearly for the purpose of using the Internet for commercial purposes, and if it is a node maintenance method, it is almost like renting a server to someone else.
This is clearly out of line with the 'home-use' Internet Terms of Use, and if you make a lot of money, it will be a problem if you do not register as a business.
Why is there a problem if there is no law on virtual money?
Already Bitcoin has been seized in Korea.
This is the story that virtual money is recognized as something worth having, even if it is not currency.
The problem is that even if you do not have the money, you provided a lot of services and got something.
In 2014, the mining frenzy was over and the perception of virtual currency was still weak.
Also, discussions about the legal problems of virtual currency trading started at this time, so miners were able to go safely.
But this is already the second time.
Computer parts are noticeably higher, there is no stock, and people are talking about how much the coin value has increased every day.
However, those who have participated in maintaining PoS and Node are not likely to be punished or likely to be punished.
But the regulations will be clear, and you will have to pay the price.
Why should regulation be made?
Keeping a node in mind, the Internet bandwidth may be just as short as it is.
It's no wonder if you can divide 10 traffic in one place and make it use 1 in 10 traffic.
There are people who think that what should be done is to regulate.
However, there are people who are sure to exploit.
Borrowing servers from the centralized Internet now limits bandwidth and traffic.
Likewise, if you do not limit bandwidth and traffic on the decentralized Internet, you will have the same problem.
It is easy to understand when you think about the grid programs of our country.
Of course, you can use a gas cost to set up a safety device, but as I pointed out in the last article, if the gas cost is a little burdensome, it is also a problem.
Ultimately, unless there is a clear solution, the cost savings of Etherium through PoS and node systems is being passed on to ordinary Internet users.
Electricity, too.
The same is true of electricity.
There is still a lot of controversy about the electricity used by miners.
Especially this summer, people seem to use a lot of air conditioners, but the number of power plants has decreased.
But electricity is being used to monetize some people?
It is a capitalist society, and if you do not have legal problems, you can say that it is not a problem, but it is not.
Many companies that are already doing business with cheap electricity rates have received negative evaluations.
It is very likely that there will be a statement that some people's desire will harm others.
However, there will surely be people who can not abandon mining or node maintenance.
Legal regulation is necessary to satisfy both sides.
Conclusion: A 'decentralized' server makes the cost 'distributed' - But makes a concentration of wealth
The disappearance of a centralized server does not mean that the computing power, electricity, and bandwidth of the network will be lost.
They are only divided.
If the costs are shared among all the people, and the benefits go with everyone else, then no one will have a problem with it.
However, the benefits will be 'concentrated' to fewer, and the cost will be distributed to everyone. the system will never be able to avoid regulation.
