“If you’re not having fun, you’re doing something wrong.” -Groucho Marx
I have been known in my day to be accused of taking things a little too serious. If you got to know me, you might think that's an odd thing to say. However, it does happen from time to time as I’m sure it does with everyone. So I'm writing this to tell myself, and whoever's reading, to just relax and take it easy. Not to be too crazy about all of this. What do I mean by "all of this?" I mean the world, Law of Attraction, spirituality, philosophy, work, play, all of it, you know life.
When I was growing up, my father took me to church every week. And even before my rebellious stage, I noticed how rigid it all was. It was so very matter of fact, even though it was all based on stories from 2,000 years ago. Nobody ever seemed to have a sense of humor about the whole thing. It was as if humor was created by the devil or something. I mean, you're telling me that Noah gathered every gnat, every fly, every spider, and every different type of insect on the arc? Every type of species that wasn't aquatic got on this thing? It's laughable, and I often liked to poke fun at the absurdity, which never really went over well. Maybe that is why I am more attracted to spirituality. Deepak Chopra once said, "Religion is belief in someone else's experience, while spirituality is having your own experience."
That is the best part it is YOUR experience so there is no right or wrong way to do spirituality. It's literally just connecting with your inner self. It doesn't take rigidity, it just takes getting to know who you are. Sure, I talk a lot about negative beliefs, and beliefs you grew up with that aren’t true. The ridiculousness of certain societal beliefs. The insanity of doing things you don't like to do because at some point we've all accepted that we have to do them. However, the beauty of spirituality is that it's you, it’s yours, you can make it your own. Same with Law of Attraction, open-minded thinking, awareness, and consciousness. It's you who's doing it, so it's your choice on how you want to practice it. And since it is up to you, you can choose to be as rigid or flexible as you want to be.
In my opinion, the more flexible you are, the easier time you'll have. Simply look at a tree, a petrified completely stiff and rigid tree will break under the slightest wind. But a palm tree, moist, supple, near the ocean, can bend in all types of ways and still thrive. The key ingredient to flexibility is happiness. Unconditional happiness.
It's knowing thyself to be sure, yes. Knowing your inner voice, and your inner sanctum, the deep, dark recesses of who you really are. Knowing what's real and what's not. Understanding your fears, understanding your humanity, as well as your spirituality and consciousness.
But at the end of the day, it's always you. And you have the power to choose how you want to experience this life. For me, there is no happiness without humor, without laughter, without comedy. I have to be able to make fun of this whole damn thing or enjoy someone who does.
The key to enlightenment is to lighten up!
I think it was Alan Watts who said, "A joke is a lot like enlightenment." Because enlightenment comes in the blink of an eye, where you just get it. All the cosmic tumblers fall into place, and you completely understand Universe through and through. Just like a joke, when you get a joke you don't think you're not going to get it. You don’t think “will I get it, or how will I get it?” It just hits you, boom, you get it, and a bodily eruption happens. Where you feel instant joy, so much so that it is literally uncontainable and uncontrollable.
I love comedy, I love to laugh. And I forget that sometimes I need to laugh at myself. It doesn't always feel good when someone makes fun of you. But when I can laugh at my own shortcomings, when I can think a thought and can laugh at it. That's when I know I'm having a good time and not taking it all too seriously.
I wanted to write a post, I still might called, The Struggle Is Not Real. We believe that we must struggle to get what we want, and it's that belief that creates the struggle. But it's just a belief. You can have an opposite belief that you don't need to struggle at all, that every single thing can be easy. This life, this journey, this day, this hour could all be as easy or as hard as you want it to be. For me, I like easy. And I like letting go of the belief that it needs to be difficult. Ironically the only thing that seems to be difficult is letting go of the old belief that says it's supposed to be difficult.
Got to love irony, its paradoxical comedy.
Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to struggle and strain? If life was easy if you did things with ease and attract great things into your life with ease. If you let them come to you, instead of forcing it to happen. We look at easy as lazy. So much in this world, we look at lazy as a negative thing. But we look at someone whose mastered what they do and say, “Wow they make it look so easy.” Because for them, it's a labor of love. There is no struggle when you love to do what you do. It's all ease, maybe challenging parts, but you grow to love a challenge.
I love to write, and sometimes it's challenging. Especially when I'm doing a big project, but I still love it. And I still know that the words will come when they're supposed to come. And I simply ask myself, "What do people need to hear today? What is it you want me to say?" Then the words start to flow.
Everything is happening the way it's supposed to, it's all going to work out. You're safe, you're okay, and you're loved. Whatever struggles you are going through will pass. Just like all the ones that came before it. There is no urgency, there's no rush. Have a good time and enjoy the gifts that have been given to you.
This doesn't mean that you can't be disciplined about things, that you can't have structure. That you can't set a goal and stick to it. But wouldn't it be nice if you could have fun on the way to your goal. If you could let it come to you as much as you're going toward it. What if you knew without a shadow of a doubt that what you want is coming. Could you have a little fun then?
Just remember to take it easy from time to time, that's all. Take it in strides, stay loose, stay flexible. Smile easy, laugh easier. Enjoy the life that you've created, even if it's not the one you want. Enjoy the parts that you like. And don't take it all so seriously, you're not getting out alive anyway.
Good Journey My Friends.
