There are two types of yucca, a sweet one, known with the scientific name Manihot utilísima, which is a sweet and mild root when cooked, and another bitter yucca, known as Manhiot esculenta, which is considered toxic, should be treated properly removing the harmful substance to take advantage of its starch or tapioca.
To cultivate this tuber you must select the type that you need to sow, sweet, for food or bitter to extract starch and elaborate specific products. Then you must decide whether to start with seedlings or seeds, and if you made the same directly on the ground or in a pot; It is important to emphasize that cassava can thrive in dry and warm climates.
For the sowing of this tuber you must have a lot of patience since its germination process is very slow, the seed should be buried 1.2 to 1.5 cm deep, covered with soil and water regularly, cassava will reach its final product of approximately 1 to 2 years.
This plant is not very prone to pests, but among the most common are, snails and slugs attack its growth. From there, it is advisable to use standard or organic pesticide to eliminate them. If the plant is attacked by small, green aphids, you can remove them with soap and water.
It is important to note that cassava has many properties for the body, is used by people who want to lose weight, because it is low in fat, this tuber facilitates digestion and other stomach disorders. The consumption of this root is beneficial for those people who suffer from a condition called celiac disease where the immune system rejects gluten.
It also helps women during pregnancy and lactation, due to their folic acid content. For these reasons, if you have patience I recommend that you cultivate this rich tuber which brings a lot of energy and benefits to the body. In other post I will talk more deeply about this root, for now I want to give a preamble of it and show my cassava plants, which will show when having the product ready.
