A few days ago, I read a report written by an architect about the inadequate urban planning in the center of my city.
She reflected that this is not an isolated phenomenon. In fact, she listed several countries, and unfortunately, Venezuela is among them.
She begins her thesis from a historical standpoint.
Like every Spanish colonial city, it all started from a vacant piece of land where their civilization emerged.
As the years went by, various houses were repurposed for uses beyond just residential, since once Venezuela gained independence from Spain and urban progress took place, the structures began to change.
There’s no doubt that the beauty of colonial houses contributes a remarkable aesthetic.
However, due to the lack of urban planning, the public lighting cables not only detract from this ornamental feature, but they also pose a danger to pedestrians.
I won’t delve into architectural details, but as a result of that report I read, I have now committed myself to documenting the state of public lighting in the city and how it has integrated with nature and the old structures.
