My son sat beside me in the living room in the evening and told me he wants to be a computer engineer, like daddy, when he grows up. I laughed because every day his career plans always changed. I replied it's a good choice but he must be ready to work hard like daddy.

This conversation and the news on TV that night set the stage for some reflection on the global situation made obvious by the pandemic. It was reported on the news that some young boys were caught with the dead body of a lady. When they were interviewed, it was discovered that the dead lady was the girlfriend of the oldest of the boys. The boys (17, 18 and 19 year old respectively) responded that they killed the lady so they could make money rituals and be rich! Appalling but sad.

The rate of unemployment is higher now than it was years back due to global inflation. So many young graduates are desperately searching for jobs while the smart ones have found a way to be self employed instead of waiting for the government or some institutions to provide them with jobs.

Some youths would rather take the fast lane —a way to make money without working for it. I wonder, why? Is there a legitimate way to make money without working for it? If yes, that would be some form of robbery, in my opinion.

The pandemic made things worse with so many people out of jobs while some have taken to the streets, literally begging for money. I wonder, why don't these people find something to do?

Those young boys want to ride big, luxury cars but they don't understand that such a lifestyle is about patience and hard work. Nothing good comes easy, including money.

Take your time, play the long game, embrace the boring, the difficulties, the uncomfortable. This is how it will happen. — Maxime Lagacé

The search for 'free money without working for it' often leads to danger and unbearable consequences.

Instead of being a menace to the society like those three boys and many others that we don't get to hear of, why don't they find something doing and steadily build towards the life they want. It's called playing the long game because it has loads of benefits attached, in my opinion.

Patience is not a common virtue anymore, unlike in the olden days when our grannies and elders in the community would often say, "the patient dog eats the fattest bone." As such, we would be patient, working hard and hoping to eat "the fattest bone".

I admire those who cannot boast of much but put in everything they have to make ends meet. They believe in playing the long game to get what they want. There's always peace and satisfaction at the end of the tunnel for such. Unlike those boys who were caught and are now in police cells. That is a frightening consequence of taking the 'back door' to wealth and comfort.
