I find it fascinating whenever I visit another country and find rows and rows of street hawkers in their back alleys. This is something that almost completely doesn’t exist in my own home country anymore, and if it does, it’s probably something curated for an event or what not.
My country’s government policy of removing all stalls from the streets in the 80s has led to the streets losing a bit of character that I see in almost every country I visit. It’s unfortunate but was probably likely needed for the sake of hygiene and city development. At least, I can still partake in such street side food whenever I’m still overseas? :)
I’m sometimes slightly concerned whenever I consume such food though. I must say there have been times where my “more delicate” stomach did not quite agree with the cleanliness of the food handling which resulted in several trips to the toilet. :(
