Small town of Baden actually must be happy to have the old rectuer because it seems he is a good human being well known around the town. The issue with many people who are rich is because when ever it is time for them to die and share their will, there is always issue among their families and this begins to create a wave of hatred and bitterness towards each other in the family most especially when you have a family member that is greedy. One example is the greedy cousin. You are right, the mistake he actually made was to have given someone his wealth that he trust but the issue is nowadays, it is always difficult to find someone that can be trusted because the world is polluted and corrupted.
