How would you have thought that the food you eat digest and send nutrients to the outlet? Some might say that the food nutrients just go to where they are needed most.

The Digestive System consists of the following parts; Mouth, Oesophagus, Stomach, Ileum (small intestine), Colon (large intestine), Rectum, Anus.
Mouth
When you eat, your teeth chew food into small pieces. Glands in your cheeks and under your tongue make saliva that coats the food. This makes it easier to chew and swallow. Saliva also contains enzymes called ptyalin that start to digest the carbohydrates in food. The saliva also contains water and musin.
Oesophagus
Your oesophagus is a tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach, after it is swallowed. A ring of muscle at the end of the oesophagus lets food into your stomach and stops stomach contents from going back up to the oesophagus. Food goes into the stomach by the process called peristalsis, that is the opening and closing of the oesophagus.
Stomach
Your stomach breaks down food with hydrochloric acid to help with digestion and absorption of vitamins and minerals.
The Liver
The Liver make and secrete bile
The Liver also turns glucose to glycogen. Much glucose is turned to glycogen and stored in the liver, when there's less glucose in the body, the glycogen is turned back to glucose by Glucagon (produced by the alpha cells in the pancreas) for use by us.
Bile breaks down fats into fatty acids
The Pancreas;
It helps to digest food, particularly protein. It produces a fliud called pancreatic juice which contain enzymes that only become activated once they reach the duodenum. This is to prevent the protein-digesting enzyme trypsin from 'eating' the protein-based pancreas or its duct.
Bile duct; carries bile between these organs.
The gallbladder stores and concentrates bile from the liver.
The Ileum
The Ileum produces enzymes that helps in breaking down of food Substances. Some of these enzymes are lipase, amylase, sucrase, lactase, maltase, aminopeptidase, carboxypeptidase , etc. When these food substances are broken down, the walls of the ileum which is made of pin-like structure called Villi will absorb the nutrient of which are: Protein, Fatty acids, sugars, vitamins and minerals etc. These nutrients are passed through its wall into the blood. Most of the chemical digestion of food takes place in the ileum.
Colon, rectum and anus
Your colon absorbs water, minerals and vitamins. Undigested fibre is mixed with mucus and bacteria, which breaks down some of the fibre to keep the large intestine healthy. Faeces💩 or poo💩 are formed and stay in the last part of the rectum before leaving the body through the anus as a bowel movement.
Digestive System converts the foods we eat into their simplest forms, like glucose (sugars), amino acids (that make up protein) or fatty acids (that make up fats).
