When you start working in the investigation of your ancestors you realize that it will take you a precious time of your life. The best way of doing the investigation is finding generations, one generation at a time. Our parents can help us with the first 4 generations, and looking in vital records say birth records, death records and marriage records can be of great help. Once we finish the first generations the path becomes more difficult, and consequently you decide to give up.
I am trying to obtain a genealogy certificate in BYU-Idaho and after this certificate I can continue the studies to obtain a BSC. I have to study all about Family History investigation and the importance of family, and as a curious thing I have to study Computer Skill as well. At the beginning I didn’t understand why I had to study computer skills to relate it with family history. As soon as I started I realized why.
I had to investigate many genealogical pages, databases like Familysearch.org, Ancestry.com, Findmypast, Geneanet, Directories, Reference Sources, Wikis, Libraries, Archives, Lists like Cindy List and Searching Engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc. All these pages contribute with valuable information in the family research. You are not alone. Some pages are free and some require a substantial payment to be used.
I started my family research 30 years ago, and I can say that it has been gratifying because of all the knowledge I have obtained in the investigation. This work will fill your soul of gratitude as you learn where your ancestors came from, what they did, where they lived, their sufferings, wars, illnesses. You will discover a mixture of races, and with a DNA Test you can quickly define your origins.
Today I will show you the different trees you can obtain in Familysearch.org. Instead of thinking about your family beyond the 4th generation, start from you, your parents, your grandparents and the great grandparents. There are 4 views: Landscape, Descendancy, Portrait and Fan Tree that shows you where your ancestors come from and it is my favorite. Here I am showing only 4 generations of my ancestors.
