What's buzzin Hive!
I have some pictures left over from my Kananaskis trip but didn't really know what to do with them so I will share some of them in this post although this wont be one of my usual travel posts. Over the last year, we have hit quite a few speed bumps as a community and that is no secret to anyone and it has greatly affected the platform both in positive and negative ways. I don't need to get into the positives, we all know the benefits of being part of this great work in progress we call a community but perhaps offer solutions for our weaknesses.
Over 3 my years on blockchain, I have been quietly observing the platform stats and activity. During steemit's height, we had over 100k active users. Sure the collapse in cryptos was outside of our control, the Sun takeover situation and the split in the chain as set us back a wee bit understandably but we started fresh and we are still surviving. Is surviving good enough tho? We are now between 10k to 12k daily active users. Along the way we have lost a lot of spammers we didn't want anyway but we have also lost some great content creators that were an asset to the our beloved online refuge. The short attention span and instant gratification of society is partly to blame so lets get together and do something to change that.
We don't have a hardcore marketing strategy so it's up to each and everyone of us to do our part and spread the word. With my real world peeps, I have tried to explain the use case and how liberating this place is without censorship but for the most part it goes in one ear and out the other because this place sounds too technical and complicated to anyone not currently into cryptos and I can't say I blame them but once I actually make them go to my blog and check out my posts, I generally get decent feedback and more interest then talking about what decentralization can offer. One thing we do have is a plethora of creativity and interesting content being published daily by many exceptional content creators. Of course we all know that but does the rest of the world? We must show them.
With that being said, I see a few initiatives to try to bring our content to twitter and that's great and can only be beneficial in the long run but there are other popular social media that we can use to bring fresh eyeballs to our beautiful community. I started a facebook ladybug business page where I will be sharing links to my content along with relevant pictures and a short story so it can be enjoyed by outsiders and will include the tag #hiveblog. I encourage you to do the same if you haven't already done so. Of course starting a new following is tedious and depressing to think about and facebook sucks, I get it but lets face it, that is where much of the content consumers still chooses for their content addiction...Lets do it for the love of hive and make it a success. At the end of the day, if Hive becomes a success, so do we.
It may not get us new users right away but with more page views, the platform moves up in rankings and at least gets the platform exposed to new eyeballs. Many of us create content that is easily consumable outside the platform, we just need to make an effort to get it out there rather than share it among ourselves exclusively on hive. If those facebook recipe chickitas can make it posting the same washed up recipe over and over again for the last 3 years, we can make it with the continuously fresh content we produce, we just need to be patient and persistent just like we were when we first stared here until we get there.
STEP ONE - Create a business page for your blog.
STEP TWO - Make a few post with pictures and a synopsis to the story you want to share including a link to your blog (don't forget tags).
STEP THREE - Find like-minded groups meant for sharing like travel or photography pages (or whatever you write about) especially local ones.
STEP FOUR - Share your post directly from your business page to your personal page and invite your friends to support you along with the content related groups and gain support and a following.
Is it the magic recipe to reviving Hive? I don't know but if we don't try we definitely will never know either. In my experience popularity brings more popularity and that's just basic social common sense. Maybe if we also help each other out like we do on Hive, together, we might just make it there as a community. It takes a village to raise a child and Hive is our child. I invite you to come support my facebook ladybug page to help me spread content to consumers and about our community in the link below. If you decide to join my initiative and start your own blog business page and post good consumable content for the everyday folk, drop the link in the comments and I will go support your initiative as well. (It's not a follow for follow deal, I will support your page even if you don't support mine, just drop a link in this post's comment section.)
Just like climbing a mountain, it seems overwhelming from the bottom but one step at a time we will climb higher and the summit will be closer until we finally reach our destination and enjoy the fruits of our labor. As Hive bloggers, we are nothing without Hive and Hive is nothing without us. Lets make it to the top of that mountain together and show the world our content and many talents!
