Your LoL analogy isn't quite the best as there is a huge debate in the gaming circle about whether LoL is pay to play or not. https://www.quora.com/Is-League-of-Legends-a-pay-to-win-game A lot of users say that it's a hidden pay to win model. Or at least it was a hidden p2w model with how the runes used to work. By no means am I saying your post is wrong, just the analogy doesn't quite work. DOTA 2 is a better example.
I don't play our silly blockchain games in the hopes of striking it rich. I play them because they are fun and if you are smart with your money they cost a LOT less and you can typically "withdraw your funds" when you are done with the game. I enjoy idlers and think that they can be just as addicting as other games when done right.
The future of decentralized gaming is decentralized development, so this is a clear step in the right direction. The best blockchain games won't be games that are developed by a small dev team, but rather flushed out by the entire community with provable ownership.
This right here is by far the most exciting thing about games on the blockchain.
Most games: "Woo I unlocked my favorite character."
Decentralized Games: "Woo! I unlocked my favorite character that was designed by my buddy, and the artwork was done by insert popular hive artist!'"
