Roughly 3 feet thick even in mid-June, you are able to walk across the ice as if it's mid-January! But I find it much more interesting to hop down into the cracks, fissures and meltwater streams that cut through the ice.
In some places the water collects into calm, tranquil pools. The water is crystal clear allowing wonderful view of the various different rocks.
The amount of rocks that can get pushed up onto the ice by what I assume to be the changing tides is quite intense. Some of the rocks are around 100 pounds, yet they lie on top of the ice as if laid there by hand.
