It was around 1:30 AM July 22, 2020 when I decided to go look out the front window and noticed a fire underneath the clouds. The sky was lit up in all directions with pink. After a few days of overcast, I was hopeful this meant I would get to snap a photo of the sun kissing the horizon.
The extremely low angle of the sun and no trees, buildings, or mountains to block the view provide a wonderful hue of colors on the bottoms of the clouds.
Coming off the tundra we noticed this one lone house didn't quite have enough hill behind it to block all of the midnight sun. That must be quite annoying. Our bedroom faces northeast towards the sun, but we have something to block the glare of the light!
One strange thing about the arctic is you will be wearing your sunglasses at night. At least, in the summer! The sun will set on the 25th for 36 whole minutes. Now begins our chase towards the long dark nights of winter.
