RNCF-Climate Labs
The following images were taken from the next three or four visits to the Royal Naval Cordite Factory's Climate Laboratory in Dorset. Matt and I had made loads of daytime explores to the three sites (Picrite factory, Cordite Factory and Climate Labs) as it was far to hazardous to try and navigate in the dark without first working out a safe route through all the semi demolished buildings and the miles of pipeline and twisted rusty metal that have been buried by 30 years of brambles and ferns growing and decaying over everything. Luckily we had been shown a way in to the Climate Labs, through the 12 foot palisade fencing by The Urban Explorer Adam Montegue. This site was designed to test the Cordite to see how it would react in different climactic environments.
Peeling Paint
I don't quite know why, but after watching a few YT vids on Urbex I realised that I'm not the only person who is fascinated by peeling paintwork. Maybe it makes for a creepy location or gives a sense of how long the building has been standing empty. Whatever it is, it made me want to try and capture it. The shots are all done in 2014 and very early on in my learning of Lightpainting techniques but I was very pleased with my homemade colour changing RGB LED strip.
After a couple years the site was being visited more and more and was slowly being broken. The last visit was in 2019 and was not worth the effort getting in as the place is a complete mess. Now boarded over ready for demolition and redevelopment.
Mario - Shoot 2
One of the dancers from my Dancing Light project, Mario, wanted some eye catching images for his portfolio as he was trying for film casting. He brought along his suit, Kickboxing and Karate clobber and it was the perfect opportunity to have a first try at some portrait photography with added Lightpainting.
