"She had a galaxy in her eyes, a universe in her mind."
Hello, beautiful people on Hive!
Dropping by this community would be one of my many amazing "firsts". A huge thanks to @hiveph that I got inspired by their Four-Week Art Challenge for October, using ink (traditional or digital) which I just recently joined. I submitted this traditional art as my entry for the 4th week. Too bad I missed the first three weeks because of the many hesitations at first about whether I would join or not plus there were lots of errands to run lately but anyway, I was so glad I still made it to the last week. It's better late than never, as they say!
Honestly, I enjoyed doing that piece using merely a ballpen. But my burning passion for art was once again ignited and I wanted to do more, this time, in my favorite medium - acrylic. Now let me share with you a little detour to how my hands were itching to do this piece.
The art materials that I used:
- 12" x 16" canvas board
- Acrylic paints
- Palette
- Palette knife (used in mixing paints)
- Paintbrushes
- A little bit of smile and old love songs playing on the background and then I'm good to paint. ☺️
The progress...🎨
🔸First, I sketched the eye with a pencil. I made sure that it is at the center of the canvass.
🔸Then I used brown color, with a mix of little yellow (my alternative for burnt umber color) to fill up the pupil with this color as a background.
🔸Then I shaded the sclera (the white portion of the eye) with the color blue, mix with white, as a background. I also added the layout for the eyebrow using the brown color.
🔸Next, I started adding color to the skin tone. A little bit of brown, white, yellow, and red was mixed for this color. Softening the portions for different shades was a bit hard for me but I still enjoyed it. I guess this would be the part that I needed to practice more.
🔸Next to that, I added details to the iris. It was a mix of blue and white. And added a little touch of yellow at the top. I also added white color to the sclera because it's too much with blue.
🔸After that, this time I added the eyelashes. Not as long and wavy as my previous eye drawing but I think she looks gorgeous in it.
🔸 And then I added the small eyelashes at the lower portion of the eye to make it even more realistic. And then added another white detail to the left portion of the eye, the one colored red at the corner. I also added details to her eyebrow.
🔸When I think she is done, already looks good with her eyes and skin tone, this time I added a sketch of the leaves and flowers.
🔸 Next I started coloring the leaves with green color around her eyes.
🔸And then the flowers. I love to use magenta for them with a mixture of a little bit of white for some pink effect.
🔸And then I filled up the background with dark blue color.
🔸Then I put some highlights on the leaves and the flowers. And then I added some clouds in yellow-green, purple, and red colors for some galaxy-looking effect.
🔸And for the final touch, I sprinkled white colors on the background for the distant-looking stars effect and added some flickering stars nearby.
🔸 Added my signature, and it's done.
Upon looking at her, it painted a smile on my face. I think I was able to put in the piece of canvas the way I imagined her in my head.
She has a stellar look flickers in her eyes. She's been through a lot but the despite the awful darkness that the universe has been giving her, she chooses to let her light illuminates brighter.
Her eyes are a glimpse of her shimmering soul. A glittering star that shines brighter in the darkness. And it will not end there, she will continue to inspire others with her brightness --- giving them a sparkle of hope that in the middle of darkness, there will always be a silver lining.
She is mysterious as the universe. She is a constellation of billions of stars shining and floating in the vastness. There's more to her than meets the eye, an infinite wonder if only you could see what lies behind her puzzling and glittering charm.
