The Broken Covenant
I stood in line, a soldier trained and true,
Doing the part they asked, for the red and white and blue.
But shadows grew in corridors of power and cold decree,
An unknown substance forced, to keep my spirit free.
Then silence fell when health began to fray,
My body betrayed by choices made that day.
No healing hand reached out from those I served,
Just lonely nights and pain I never deserved.
They claim it’s gone, the injury, the cost,
But they cannot measure all the trust I’ve lost.
A uniform discarded, a bond now torn apart,
Leaving only echoes of a once-steadfast heart.
