Utility workers in Lima, Peru uncovered a 1,000-year-old pre-Inca mummy just 20 inches below the street.
Archaeologists believe it belonged to the Chancay culture, a coastal society active between 1000–1470 AD. The mummy was found seated in a funerary bundle with hair still preserved. Lima, built over hundreds of ancient sites, continues to reveal its deep pre-Hispanic past as modern infrastructure expands.
