Intro
I've been posting my weekend results the past few weeks as I learn lessons and fine-tune my nature deck. I'm continuing that trend here. There is purported to be a balance patch this week, which always shakes up the meta, but as always, learning how to think about the meta is more important than memorizing the current meta.
The Deck and Results
Deck Code: GU_1_5_GAwIDNIDNCAuCAuCCOCCOCAvCAvIASBEXBEXCBhCBhBCCBCCIDKIDKCBxCBxCAsGAbIDMIDMICHICHGAnIDFIDFCDf
I get that this isn't a budget deck. Honestly, the idea that I would own a deck in a card game that costs 0.5 ETH is nuts to me. I thought I was a little nutty buying Boars for $30 and Selena for $70. I'm betting that's the same feeling many of you have looking at $20-$40 Divine Order legendaries right now.
Swaps:
- Pyramid Wardens -> Rabid Bears (Do you even need PW?)
- Boars -> Black Jaguars
- Chiron + Selena -> Overgrown Rhinos
Result Details
In my mind, this is the interesting part. As I detailed in my what to play post, I checked and knew (no surprise) that I'd be facing nature and war for the most part. I ran into War as expected, but oddly enough, only 1 nature. The flukes of small sample sizes.
In the match details below, you can see that I didn't run into a lot of high MMR players. This isn't conclusive, as I played half my games on Friday (MMR is reset then and low for everyone). My general sense is that I didn't run into too many ultra-sweaty decks, though.
Relic Removal
One of the lessons from last week paid off this week. I swapped in a Nefarious Briar for a total of 2 relic removal cards. Briars are nasty things with 4 durability removal. Whatever they equipped, it's gone. Briars also aren't terrible in the stat department.
Check the matchups above. Every Death matchup was Zombie, and the relic removal in those games absolutely sealed the wins. Against war (my most common match-up), relic removal was big. If you peruse the list above, you'll see how many opponents had relics in their decks. Most of them did. This is the type of post-mortem analysis you should be doing in addition to just thinking about how the games felt.
Skeleton Heavies
I meant what I said. Heavies are my new best friend. The Skeleton Heavies felt great. In my post, I mentioned recognizing that I was tossing back Black Jaguars in the mulligan looking for something else. I didn't toss back a single Skeleton Heavy.
25 games aren't enough to make any conclusions, but that mulligan observation and the general feeling were important.
Pyramid Wardens
2 of my War losses were due in large part to Pyramid Wardens backfiring. The opponent was able to pull off huge turns even with simple cards like Vicious Rend. They also showed up mid-game several times as dead cards where a Rabid Bear (or something in the 3-4 mana) would have been preferred. Hard to say, but I'll be testing without them this week. Who knows about next weekend with the balance patch, though.
Conclusion
This is my personal best in the weekend ranked. Still, I learned a lot doing this post-mortem review. I encourage each of you to do the same.
Hat Tip to Jagermeister. You cost me the prized 20 wins in our rematch, but it was a really great game! We were both single-digit HP range at the end. Very exciting. Did you top deck that final Epiphany?! If not, you could have killed me the turn before...
