The latest busted combo to hit the streets: Azaiah. I'll do a quick review of that deck and I've got the full gameplay below, but this is what this post is all about. Sneaking perfect lethal before the combo!
The intent of this card was clear: create a highlighander deck full of leggy creatures. Completely for fun/memes and not meant to be competitive. Unfortunately, the usual suspects showed up and ruined everything:
Now we have a stronger combo list than even school teachers. The main combo piece always starts in your mulligan. Just great. They also printed yet another 1 mana foresee 2 card, which helps make up for the foresee GP nerf.
I'm actually 3-0 against the deck. I've gotten very lucky. In my fist two games, I had Undersea Spellwyrm in hand at either 4 mana (with pip) or at 5 mana. I was able to destroy one of their inks both times.
This is my third time facing it. I made no misplays that I can see. I played as aggressively as possible given the cards I drew, but it still came down to the pure luck of them not finding LITD fast enough. Even so, I'm fairly confident I only beat them by a turn. Them OTK'ing on turn 5 without LITD is nuts.
I'm going to miss being able to look at my opponent's deck. Without that, I might have chosen Fracture GP and lost the game. I took enrage instead, and that extra damage made all the difference. In my mulligan I found a solid turn 1 opener with 2 one drops. I was then looking for Woodcutter Imp to play on 2.
I didn't hit my curve just right, but was able to get Lambasting Wand from the sanctum. I almost missed lethal, but found it. Just enough damage on board to win.
While Cuuurrrrke never found LITD, with the amount of foresee he did, there was a really strong chance he had found Aethersnap. He already had every other card ready to go.
I really want this card nerfed. Some disagree, and that's fine, but the Devs simply failed to anticipate how this card would be abused. Given they didn't mean to create yet another LITD deck (and they've mentioned LITD is a problem), I feel confident it gets changed so it does what it was designed to do.
