The oldest Oak in Florida

Here we are at the oldest oak tree in Florida, and one of the oldest around.

It's called "The Fairchild Oak", located in Ormond Beach, Florida. The tree is known to be over 400 years old. Some have estimated even older.

As you can see, this tree is HUGE. So hard to fit even parts of it in a frame.

The Spanish moss hanging from it gives it an even more auspicious and dignified look.

One of the main branches broke off some years ago. Even still the canopy is just massive.

There's also nearby hiking trails.

There are of course stories of ghost visits perhaps from one of the two deaths on the spot. One was James Ormond II who lived in the nearby house and whose body was found under the tree, with the cause of death unknown.

A second death was Norman Harwood, who is said to have killed himself under the tree due to economic depression.

We didn't see or feel the ghost(s) when there during this bright, sunny afternoon, but many report feelings of sadness and have seen the apparition of a man under the tree.

Either way, it's a great place to visit and also to hike some of the many trails in nearby Bulow Creek State Park.
