So, I'm generally not a fan of laser sights on pistols, or in customizing "Every Day Carry" (EDC) pistols. But, I had a friend that had ordered this and then got an extra one as a gift from his son, so I was able to get his extra one for a really good price. Curiosity got the best of me.
I already had a clip-on light and laser combo that fit this weapon rail, but that one was a bit bulky for this size pistol, and only something I would use for a specific nighttime use.
For this one though, I was fascinated by how compact it was, and how well it blended in naturally to the curves of the weapon. I found it fits almost all my existing holsters except a couple that would need modification or special order to fit.
For comparison, here was the clip on light/laser combo. This of course would not fit any of the existing holsters.
The weapon is a Sig Sauer P365 9mm micro compact pistol. It has multiple magazine options, 10 Round, 12 round, and 15 round. The 10 and 12 round have optional pinky extensions to help grip with the compact size (I prefer them).
I've also added a TandemKross skeletonized flat trigger modification.
So, lets talk performance. This is a green laser. Common amongst shooters is that the green lasers appear to be more visible and faster to pickup than the older, original red laser models that first came out decades ago. I found this to be true.
This laser has a pressure switch that is located on that little foot that you see hanging down the front strap just below the magazine release button. It automatically turns on the laser when you grip the pistol, without any other manual action needed.
I found it excellent for indoor use even during the day. I was going to do some video, but the camera whether video or still doesn't do it justice at all. The real life view is at least 5-10 times brighter than the camera and picture shows.
Here is a mirror view from about 7 yards. Super fast to pick up and what's cool, is that it allows accurate, fast aiming right from the hip, without having to extend the arms out in front of you. Great for a close quarters situation. Also, as you see in the mirror, the visible green light could be quite a deterrent in a group situation. The camera also seems to make the size about twice as large as what appears to the eye.
This view is about 15 yards across the living room and adjoining room. Again the light in real life is 5 - 10 times brighter than what this appears, and it also appears to be half this size in real life. In real life, it's so bright in this area, it just jumps out like someone shining a bright light back at you.
Now the cons.
Still, I found the use in bright daylight extremely limited. When I tested outside, I found it very usable and quick to pickup out to 20 yards in the shade, then too light and hard to pickup further out. If I squinted really hard and took time to find it, I could maybe make it out on trees out to 25-30 yards, but way too faint and slow to pickup for actual use.
In direct, full bright sunlight, I found it very usable and fast to pickup at 5-7 yards, but then faded quickly at 10 yards, then invisible past that.
I'll have to do more testing with it before I make up my mind. It's of course easy to co-witness with the regular sights unlike red dot sights, and much more compact and easy to carry concealed than the red dots. I'm thinking it may be very useful for close range metal plates competition and then easy to switch to regular sights at longer distance.
