Damon has been one of the best American actors for many years. He made his big screen debut in 1988 in Donald Petrie's "Mystic Pizza". In turn, his first major acting role was in the 1996 film "Courage Under Fire", directed by Edward Zwick, in which he co-starred with Denzel Washington and Meg Ryan. This film opened up opportunities for him to participate in the greatest Hollywood productions. He is best known for his 1997 film "Good Will Hunting", for which he co-wrote the screenplay with his friend Ben Affleck. This production won both writers the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. The actor also has two Golden Globes - one also for the script of the aforementioned film, and the other for his role in the film "The Martian".
