Happy Birthday to the Hive!

Hello, fellow alien Hivers. This is my first time to post in this community, and I hope to post more here someday. The Hive is a year old now, and although this may be a bit late, I wouldn't let this week go by without putting something out to show my love for this community. This is just a quick scene thrown together for fun and is not intended to be a showcase of Hollywood-esque CGI wizardry.

The Ingredients of this Artwork

To create this render I used two free 3D models I downloaded from Sketchfab and Blend Swap, two well-known sites that offer thousands of cool paid as well as free stuff for 3D artists. And in case you want to try to create something similar with the alien and cake 3D models, here are their links for you to download them and play with. You will also need the latest version of Blender, like the one I use, version 2.92.

And here are some screenshots showing what the models look like in their original form.

You can see that I haven't done much to the alien because I thought it looked good enough for this simple piece. But the cake got some custom treatment as I didn't like the color, plus the candle flames didn't look good when rendered. So after a little experimenting with the colors and adding point lights into each of them, I got the flame looking quite acceptable for my needs.

This isn't the first such artwork I've made using these two free 3D models. I actually started in February to make similar artworks to give to last month's birthday celebrants. And here are two screenshots of one I made for a friend last February. He is a fellow 3D artist who is now studying to become a lawyer.

I modeled the chocolate gavel and the scales of justice gummy candies on the sides of the cake.

Some More Screenshots

The Hive logo is a 3D model I made last year, which I featured in my first blog post here, after our mass exodus from Steemit.

Process Video

And as usual with my artwork posts, here is a short video showing how I put them all together to make this piece. It is not a tutorial, though, but if you're planning to get into Blender soon just watch it and maybe you'll learn a few things from it. Enjoy.

So that's it for now. I hope you liked what I've shared and enjoyed reading it. Don't hesitate to upvote, comment, and reblog. Stay safe and have a nice day. God Bless!
