I tried. I'm using the Opera and other browsers and time and time again I run into situations where I need to use a specific extension to gain a unique ability in my browser. For instance the simple act of double-clicking a word and having a definition popup right where the cursor is doesn't exist as an extension in any browser except for Google Chrome because it is a Google made extension.
There are more nuances.
However, what I have learned is that a password manager like LastPass is a good idea, because it can generate unique passwords for each site and it's own master password is huge as F so it's really secure and good for allowing you to use any system and get to your passwords.
We can make it hard on those who would keep us down, for instance if everyone would demonetize their videos on YouTube, Google wouldn't make any money then. Then we would use it to store our vidoes but distribute through Dtube to get the monetization we desire. So Google will be losing again for their censorship stance because now they'll paying for our video storage without monetization, because demonetized videos show no ads at all. Not even on the side.
We can also stop using Google ads in other places that we have control and find other avenues of ad revenue. Personally, I think we should point our website addresses to our steemit pages, I'm thinking about doing this. I've got a lot of content that gets a lot of hits and generates near to nothing in money. But if they were steemit pages, that content which is actually popular would get upvoted and lead to real monetization. I'm good with that.
Caveat:
If we did start doing this then I'm willing to bet steemit might progress to allow us to have configurable webspaces. I could foresee moving a Wordpress, Drupal, or even a PHPNUKE site to exist inside the blockchain. The nice thing about such a move would be that if you lost your website name, your steemit based site would still exist until Jesus comes back. No need for an internet archive.
