I do not believe that we will do either in our lifetimes.

To meeting them personally - space is just too large and currently, we do not know of a technology that would allow FTL travel.

For communication - I doubt that they would use some kind of electromagnetic-wave based communication system and if yes then the signal would decay too much before it would get to us.
