Survival may seem like something you can do on your own, but in the long run, you can only survive in a group. It's important for people to try to do well for themselves, because the benefits of success can be shared with the rest of the community. This kind of sharing can only happen if everyone in the group is honest with each other. So, the person who made the value will get the reward they earn, which can encourage them to make more value.
