Our work generates value that is intangible and cannot be stored, hence we rely on money as a means to quantify and exchange value. This is why gold was historically used as a standard for measuring value. However, as gold was not ideal for everyday transactions, bankers developed currencies that were backed by gold. Governments later realized they could use inflation as a hidden tax, devaluing currency over time. Unfortunately, the general public bears the burden of these actions.
