Discovery of Splinterlands

I remember seeing Splinterlands somewhere on youtube when I was interested in diving in Axie Infinity. Axie Infinity were a big hit in our country and I was pretty curious about it. As I do the research, I saw that it would take quite a bit of money in order to start my journey for it.

That's when I started searching for low budget NFT games. I do want a "game" though and not those NFT that you just collect and wait since it felt like those were more of a scam. I wanted a working game that you can play, that you don't need to put a lot of money to start so even if it turned out to be a scam, it wouldn't hurt as much.

I started Splinterlands by investing $10. I saw that you can make a post and Splinterlands will give you an upvote for it. I tried and received no upvote so I just tried the game for a month. Actually, it still wasn't much profitable so I decided to not play it.

I got bored after a month so I tried my account again, played some and then posted some in Hive. To my surprise, I got upvoted and used that rewards to get some cards in the game and enjoyed that cycle ever since.

Duration of Splinterlands

Even though I started 8 months ago, around March of this year, I consider myself a newbie. I have so much to learn and right now, I just dipped myself into the realms of Wild Format, which is a world on its own inside Splinterlands.

Time Spent in Splinterlands

There is no specific time I play each day or each week. I just go in and out when I have time after I've done with my own stuff. Unfortunately, I cannot fully focus on Splinterlands as I have studies I need to pursue and jobs I need to go to everyday. However, I make sure to at least invest a couple of minutes or hours each day when I have time for Splinterlands.

Accomplishments

Right now, I don't think there's particular accomplishments I've done. I am very proud of getting to Silver league a few weeks ago with the help of the almighty The Kraken. I also managed to secure two level 2 summoners, Obsidian and Thaddius Brood. While these are not really achievements or accomplishments, I am still pretty proud about it myself.

Upcoming Goals

I know that I am not as good as other players. I think my goal in the future is to collect all cards. I want to treat Splinterlands like Pokemon, where your goal is to collect all of the Pokemons and just casually enjoy the game. I would like to try all what Splinterlands is to offer like the lands, the new tower defense, Soulkeep, and other things they planned in the future but my main goal is to simply collect and enjoy seeing my collection increase in size as time goes on.

Advice for Beginners

As a beginner myself, all I can say is to have fun. Whether your goal is to become the best Splinterlands player, or casually enjoy the game like me, both requires you to have fun. Remember that everything starts from zero. You cannot become a good chef without experiencing how to become a dishwasher. Enjoy the game, learn from experience, and use it to improve your gameplay. The more you improve, the more fun you will get.

Final Thoughts

Splinterlands is hard, extremely hard, actually, for a beginner. I remember myself getting stuck for a week in novice and low bronze before getting out of it. Unlike other games, Splinterlands doesn't have any tutorial, a helping hand as you try the game. After purchasing your spellbook to earn in the game, you're thrown in the colosseum to learn on your own. If you don't have patience, you'll probably quit after a week or two, just like what happened to me.

Now that I remember, I wished there was any form of tutorial. Not all people played or plays strategy card games. I was lucky since I had some experience playing such card games before and managed to slowly like the game but for a complete newbie, it felt like studying, rather than playing, for weeks, even months.



Now, after gaining some experience, I really like the game. Splinterlands has more depth the more you play it. I was initially confused why some units cannot attack, why some can, why some attacks pass through armor, why some doesn't and a lot more, and again, all of these, were not taught. There were no clues, just learned from experience.

I know Splinterlands is making plans about this and I am in full support for it. I think this is an amazing game and if handled correctly, can be playable, even profitable, for a very long time.
